More than mentoring
Mentors from all backgrounds inspire young people to ask the right questions and seek out answers.

‘I wish I had this when I was at school’ is a phrase we often hear from our mentors. This squad of enthusiastic Game Changers donate their time and energy, helping young people to explore, challenge and grow. Whatever your background or skillset, you can coach teams to:
“Connecting with young people at this age and point in their lives is really important; there was nothing like this when I was their age. I would have loved it. It’s great for them; they can understand what they want to be when they’re older.”

No need to be a robotic or programming whizz! Our Game Changer mentors can come from a variety of backgrounds – from HR to the Automotive industry – what unites them is a passion for inspiring young people.
And don’t worry, we won’t just throw you to the robots. In addition to our support from FIRST HQ and your fellow mentors, you’ll gain access to Makerspace – our online learning platform. It’s home to a comprehensive resource library and dedicated modules to help new mentors get up to speed.
In 2020, mentoring went virtual! Mentors connected with teams remotely, as each team adapted to a new way of working. This season, support teams in-person or online – through videoconferencing and emails. Let us know your availability when registering and combine the rewards of mentoring with a busy life.
From November, mentors are on-boarded and connect with nearby teams. You’ll get to grips with your role, this season’s challenge and the basics with your team.
From November, teams focus on their game strategy, robot design and build. With lots of challenges to overcome, iterations and testing, help your team find solutions.
From February, it’s all about getting match-ready. Help your team fine-tune their game strategy and develop their presentation to judges as they gear up for the competition.
Once signed up, you’ll get access to our mentor map. Use the map to reach out to schools and youth organisations in your area who need support. As a virtual mentor, you could also support an isolated team from across the country.
Already have a team who’s taking part this season? Sign up as a mentor and let us know who you’ll be supporting.
